A Celebration of the New Album AM ARE

Storyville (PLASSEN) 495,- fees incl.

Bugge Wesseltoft returns with a new and deeply personal chapter in his musical journey. Together with legendary bassist Arild Andersen and the innovative drummer and vocalist Øyunn, he presents Bugge Wesseltoft/Arild Andersen/Øyunn – a classic piano trio with a distinctly modern expression.

This exclusive trio is centered around the repertoire from Bugge’s upcoming album AM ARE, set for release on Jazzland Recordings in March 2025. In addition to brand-new material, the trio will perform compositions by all three members, as well as reinterpretations of select Bugge Wesseltoft classics.

Line-up:
Bugge Wesseltoft – keys
Arild Andersen – double bass
Øyunn – drums

AM ARE marks the fifth installment in Bugge’s acclaimed solo album series, which began in 2007. The series is known for its melancholic and understated tone, often conveying powerful messages and reflections on the state of the world. This time, the format is expanded with carefully selected guest musicians who bring new depth and variety to Bugge’s sonic landscape.

Guest artists on the album include:
Vocalist and songwriter Rohey, saxophonist Martin Myhre Olsen, tabla player Sanskriti Shrestha, guitarist Oddrun Lilja, bassist Jens Mikkel Madsen, drummers Elias Tafjord and Gard Nilssen.

This project spans a wide spectrum – from acoustic jazz to experimental rhythms and international influences – and The Bugge Wesseltoft Special Trio offers a rare opportunity to experience the heart of this new universe live.

To create a more vibrant and immersive experience, we are now changing the setup at Storyville – from seated to standing audiences. This change brings new energy to the stage and ensures that the concert experience better matches the type of artists we bring in. As an audience member, you’ll enjoy a more dynamic and intimate concert atmosphere – just as it should be!

Arild Andersen is regarded as one of the great figures of European jazz, with a career spanning six decades. He has performed with everyone from Jan Garbarek and Don Cherry to George Russell and Stan Getz, and has released a number of critically acclaimed albums on ECM. His lyrical yet powerful playing style makes him an irreplaceable voice on the Norwegian jazz scene – and a perfect match for this trio.

Øyunn (Siv Øyunn Kjenstad) is an award-winning Norwegian drummer, vocalist, rapper, and composer, known for her expressive and honest musical universe. She blends drums, synths, rap, and vocals into a distinctive soundscape that moves between jazz, electronica, and experimental pop. Øyunn has collaborated with artists like Bugge Wesseltoft and Efterklang, and has also made her mark as an actress and composer in theatre, dance, and film. In 2022, she debuted as a filmmaker with the audiovisual work Aspects, performed at the Ultima Festival. Her artistry is characterized by a strong presence, rhythmic precision, and a fearless approach to exploring new forms of expression.
