Karin Krog
Karin Krog sings with a warm, expressive voice that brings lyrics to life with heartfelt conviction. Despite more than sixty years of dedication to jazz, her voice shows no signs of wear. Her collaborators include legends such as John Surman, Dexter Gordon, Archie Shepp, Don Ellis, Steve Kuhn, Palle Mikkelborg, Bengt Hallberg, Red Mitchell, and Warne Marsh, as well as Norwegian icons like Arild Andersen, Jan Garbarek, Jon Christensen, and Egil Kapstad.
Karin has been honored with numerous accolades, including the Buddy Award, the Order of St. Olav, Anders Jahre’s Cultural Prize, the French "Prix du Jazz Vocal Europe," the Molde Rose, and the Norwegian Arts Council Honorary Award.
Her albums have been released worldwide, and she has run her own record label, Meantime Records, for many years. In 2022, she published her autobiography, "It Had to Be Jazz" chronicling her life as a musician. («Det måtte bli Jazz,")
A frequent guest at Moldejazz, Karin has performed in various settings over the years and has a special connection with the festival. She sang at the very first festival in 1961 and was the Artist in Residence in 2020. Her recording "Break of Day in Molde" is often regarded as Moldejazz’s "national anthem."
For Moldejazz 2025, Karin will perform with her long-standing trio, featuring guitarist Staffan William-Olsson and bassist Terje Gewelt. For this occasion, the trio will expand into a quartet with the addition of saxophonist John Surman.
