Beharie and Ife Ogunjobi at Alexandraparken + Jazzintro 2024!
Moldejazz announces the final two artists for the Alexandraparken stage, where many magical summer evenings have been - and will be filled with fantastic live music and good vibes.
We present the Norwegian indie-soul wonder Beharie, a soul singer who has taken Norway by storm.
We also welcome the British jazz artist Ife Ogunjobi, with Nigerian roots, who brings his infectious rhythmic jazz and afrobeat hybrid to Moldejazz.
Once again, we welcome the Jazzintro final, where four Norwegian bands will compete to become the Young Jazz Musicians of the Year!
Ife Ogunjobi
A London-based musician with Nigerian roots, who blends genres such as jazz, afrobeat, and hip-hop to create a unique sound
Inspired by Fela Kuti, Erykah Badu, and Roy Hargrove, he breaks down barriers between genres and presents his truly authentic sound. His debut EP “Stay True” was released on September 14, 2023, combining Nigerian Fuji and Afrobeats with jazz and hip-hop from the streets of London. The EP is filled with triumphant melodies, energetic grooves, and irresistible rhythms.
Ife is a vital part of London’s music scene and a member of the band Ezra Collective, which won the Mercury Prize in 2023. He has performed at major venues such as Madison Square Garden with stars like Wizkid and Burna Boy. His versatile style takes you from spiritual jazz to a dance-filled Afrobeat party in an instant.
Ife has also collaborated with artists like Wizkid on "More Love, Less Ego" and Burna Boy on "I Told Them," which topped the UK charts. He has gained significant attention after sold-out shows at London Omeara during the EFG London Jazz Festival and festival performances at Love Supreme and We Out Here.
Beharie
Experience the magic of Beharie – a warm indie/soul artist who captures your heart with his vulnerable and powerful music
On October 20, 2023, he released his highly anticipated debut album, "Are You There, Boy?", which has garnered rave reviews. With themes of identity, queer love, and loneliness, the album takes listeners on an emotional journey.
Beharie's career has been full of highlights, from winning the Spellemann Award (Norwegian Grammy) to performing on major stages like Øyafestivalen and Sentrum Scene. International media outlets such as Wonderland and Clash have also taken notice of this Norwegian star.
Jazzintro
The band that is ultimately crowned the Young Jazz Musicians of the Year 2024 will receive, in addition to the title, a festival tour and a tailored mentorship program
The first preliminary round took place at Bergen Jazzforum in February, where Schemes secured their place in the final. A little over a week later at Stavanger Jazzforum, Sondre Moshagen Lightning Trio advanced. Coincidences became the third final band after their concert at Dokkhuset Scene in Trondheim in mid-March. In April, Bliss Quintet won the last preliminary round at the National Jazz Scene in Oslo.
