New Concept for Moldejazz 2025 – You Won’t Want to Miss This!

Plassen Takeover with Trondheim Jazz Orchestra

«Find a place you trust, and then try trusting it for a while”

This is how Sister Corita Kent’s 10 creative principles begin, famously popularized by John Cage in the 1960s.

Moldejazz has entrusted Trondheim Jazz Orchestra (TJO) as Artist in Residence for 2025, and we at TJO have found our place to trust. On July 16, we are taking over Kulturhuset Plassen for an entire day, filling it with music, art, history, tradition, and—basically—ANYTHING GOES. We will take over the entire building, from the smallest restroom stall to Teatret Vårt, with both conventional concerts and spontaneous musical happenings throughout the day, acting as one big band and many small bands.

All day, all TJO, all over!

Trondheim Jazz Orchestra is a band, an idea, and a concept. A recipe for success, where the ingredients can change with each performance—a musical phoenix that reinvents itself in new forms and costumes, with new musicians for each version of the band.

Since its inception in 2000, the ensemble has spotlighted Norwegian composers and musicians in countless projects, alongside international stars like Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, Bill Frisell, Joshua Redman, and Jason Moran, as well as some of the finest Norwegian and Nordic composers and musicians; Erlend Skomsvoll, Eirik Hegdal, Sofia Jernberg, Maria Kannegaard, Kim Myhr, Jenny Hval, Stian Westerhus, Ståle Storløkken, Marius Espen Berg, Marius Neset, Ole Morten Vågan, and Signe Emmeluth, to name just a few.

The orchestra’s constant reinvention with new iterations of itself has kept TJO in a state of regeneration—just as the human body replaces all its cells over a ten-year period, TJO strives to do the same at least a couple of times a year! In celebration of our 25th anniversary in 2025, we’re coming to Moldejazz to celebrate music, the band, and the audience. We will explore both new and overgrown paths and discover new musical collaborators—there couldn’t be a better way to celebrate 25 great years than to spend week 29 with you in Molde!
